Immigrants in New York City

In this post I will write about immigrants in one of the American biggest cities - New York. The city is famous for being a hub of different cultures, religions and skin colors. Very often it is called a "separate world" because you can meet there people from all over the world. Nearly a quarter of New York residents were born outside the USA. According to the statistics in 2018 the State of New York was a home to about 4.5 million people. Most of them come from Dominican Republic, China, Mexico, Jamaica and India.

In many books and movies it is said that if you want to achieve something great in your life, you should move to New York. People who came there say that the city is open to everyone. You can look however you want and do whatever you want and no one will judge or scowl at you. I think that it is the main reason why that number of people come there. They want to feel free and tolerated by others.

  1. It's also called 'The Big Apple' (why?) and 'melting pot' (for exactly the reasons you describe).
