 I've just come back from a hiking trip in Malta. Everyday we walked for more than 15 kilometres and our guide was supposed to show us the paths and some interesting places. Unfortunately he barely knew English, and yet English is the official language there. Due to his behavior we had many problems. For example he wasn't able to explain to our driver where we are at the certain moment, so the driver couldn't pick us up. For me it's ridiculous that a man who doesn't know the language may become a guide in a foreign country. Does it mean that I can be a guide in Greece even though I don't speak Greek? Or that nowadays you don't need any qualifications to get a good job? It also made me realize that people like him take away work places from those who really know something and have some talents. That's really sad and disappointing how the modern world works and looks like.
